Anti-POSCO leader held
November 26th, 2011 - 12:11 am ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Nov 25 (IANS) Abhaya Sahu, the top leader of the anti-Posco agitation in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, was arrested Friday over various cases against him, including a dowry death, police said.
Sahu is the head of Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS), a Communist Party of India (CPI) backed organisation, which has been spearheading agitation against the proposed $12 billion steel project by South Korean company Posco in the region.
Sahu was wanted in several cases including in a dowry death case and in a case of atrocity against the members of scheduled caste, Superintendent of Police S.S.Dev Dutta Singh told IANS.
However Prasant Paikray, the spokesman of PPSS, said it was a deliberate move by the administration to suppress agitation against the POSCO project.
