Anti-human trafficking cell opens in Ghaziabad
June 13th, 2011 - 10:30 pm ICT by IANSGhaziabad, June 13 (IANS) An anti-human trafficking cell was opened here Monday aimed at checking the high incidence of women and child trafficking in Uttar Pradesh.
Senior Superintendent of Police Raghuvir Lal opened the facility at the old police station building here.
The move is part of the state government decision to open new police stations in twelve districts with aid from the union government.
Apart from Ghaziabad, anti-human trafficking cells will be established in Gautam Budh Nagar, Meerut, Kanpur, Etawah, Basti, Bareilly, Agra, Lucknow, Moradabad, Varanasi and Gorakhpur districts.
Initially, the Gautam Budh Nagar cell will be manned by four personnel while Ghaziabad would start with two senior officials.
“The police station will work in close coordination with the labour and social welfare departments and NGOs for sharing of information and collective action. It will also act as an enforcement wing of these departments, which till now, had none,” said Raghuvir Lal.
