Hyderabad, April 29 (IANS) A youth taking part in a run for recruitment of police constables died in Andhra Pradesh Tuesday, the second such death in two days. Sharavan, 20, collapsed during the five-kilometre run organised Tuesday morning as part of the drive for recruitment for police constables at Vijayawada, the police said. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died.
The second incident in as many days sent shock wave among hundreds of candidates appearing for police constables selection tests across the state. The five-kilometre run was part of a week-long physical eligibility tests being conducted to recruit cops.
According to eyewitnesses, Sharavan collapsed after covering three kilometres. He was given first aid and was shifted to government hospital in an ambulance. However, the youth died while undergoing treatment.
Police officers said the cause of the death would be known only after autopsy. They said the run was conducted at 8 a.m. so that the participants were not exposed to the scorching sun and heat.
Another participant in the run also collapsed and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
This was the second incident in as many days. One youth had collapsed and died during a similar run in Warangal Monday. R. Narender, 23, had collapsed after covering half the distance. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Police said the man died due to high blood pressure and cardiac arrest.
