New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) A low-floor Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus running on compressed natural gas (CNG) caught fire in the capital, officials said Sunday. However, no one was injured in the incident.
The incident took place near Delhi Cantonment area in south-west Delhi late Saturday. This has taken the number of such incidents to five in recent times.

“The incident took place around 10:30 p.m. Saturday when the bus suddenly stopped near Delhi Cantonment area when its rear wheels jammed. The smoke filled the rear part of the bus but the driver unlocked the doors and the passengers rushed out. No one was injured,” said a DTC official on condition of anonymity.

“A team from Tata Motors, which is responsible for maintenance of low-floor buses, rushed to the spot and fixed the fault,” the official added.

The Delhi government has already ordered an inquiry into the incidents.

Earlier this week, the Delhi government fined Tata Motors Rs.4 crore (Rs.40 million) for failing to ensure proper maintenance of its low-floor buses.
