Film: “Anjadhiru”; Director: Janardhan; Cast: Prashanth, Shubha, Muralidhar, Dwarakish, Avinash, Ravi Kale and Aadi Lokesh; Music: Sundar C. Babu; Rating: ***
“Anjadhiru” is yet another remake the Kannada film industry has offered, but it has nevertheless been stylishly executed. Director Janardhan, who has so far made tele-serials, comes out with an engrossing thriller that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.

“Anjadhiru” is the remake of Tamil hit “Anjaathe” directed by Mysskin. Each second of the film’s second half is filled with suspense, leaving viewers glued to the screen. The movie has been effectively handled by Janardhan and the superb photography by Sundaranath Suvarna and the background music are the movie’s high points.

The only negative factor is that the director has not been able to extract sound performances from the lead artists Prashanth and Shubha. Prashanth’s body language as a police inspector is particularly bad. Newcomer Muralidhar and veteran actors Dwarakish, Avinash, Ravi Kale and Aadi Lokesh have acted well as usual.

The main strength of “Anjadhiru” is that it doesn’t drag even for a moment despite its length. The film’s emotional moments leave a great impact and the trauma faced by parents of kidnapped children has been brought out very realistically.

“Anjadhiru” revolves around the friendship of Sathya Murthy and Krupa. They are neighbours and their fathers are policemen. But while Sathya is a careless guy, Krupa works hard to become a police officer.

However, despite his hard work, it is Sathya who gets the job. The friendship turns but Sathya is in love with Uththara, Krupa’s sister.

Meanwhile, a gang of kidnappers led by Daya has become a menace, abducting people for ransom. Sathya is also a part of the investigations led by a tough investigator Keerthi. In a twist to the story, Krupa joins Daya’s gang. And in a gripping half-an-hour climax, the investigators nab the kidnappers and Krupa is killed.

The veteran actors are the ones who make “Anjadhiru” worth watching. Dwarakish proves his versatility through the character of Loki in the film. Aadi Lokesh has done a great job as gangster Daya. Newcomer Muralidhar shines in the role of Krupa, while Sreenivasa Murthy, Padmaja Rao and Krishne Gowda chip in.

“Anjadhiru” is a remake alright, but it definitely is a well-made remake. The film may impress even those who have watched the Tamil original.
