November 17th, 2009 - 9:59 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Nov 17 (IANS) The Andhra Pradesh police Tuesday moved an application before a city court seeking custodial interrogation of proscribed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader Kobad Ghandy, who is in Tihar jail.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja sought a report from Tihar jail superintendent on the application. The court will hear the application Wednesday after the response from Tihar jail superintendent is received.
In its application, the Andhra police said Ghandy was wanted in a case registered with the Karimnagar (rural) police station in 2008.
Ghandy, apprehended here on Sep 20, has been booked under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. He is in judicial custody till Nov 27.
Ghandy’s release, along with two other leaders, was reportedly demanded by Maoists for the safe return of abducted Jharkhand Police Inspector Francis Induwar, who was later beheaded near Ranchi earlier last month.
