August 18th, 2011 - 10:14 pm ICT by IANSHyderabad, Aug 18 (IANS) A special campaign “Mana Suraksha” has been launched in Andhra Pradesh to provide quality health services to populations vulnerable to HIV/AIDS.
The vulnerable sections include female sex workers, men who have sex with men and transgenders.
Launching the campaign, C. Partha Sarathi, project director, Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS), hoped that it would prove a milestone in mainstreaming the vulnerable population.
The campaign aims to mainstream vulnerable populations to enable them to have effective access to Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) prevention services in government hospitals, especially in rural areas.
Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust (HLFPPT), Alliance and APSACS will jointly implement the programme.
Partha Sarathi stressed the need to initiate programmes to protect the basic fundamental rights of vulnerable populations especially their right to health.
“We will take up all measures to address all challenges in ensuring quality STI, HIV/AIDS prevention services in government hospitals,” he said.
