Hyderabad, March 13 (IANS) A girl studying in a college in Andhra Pradesh was allegedly forced to strip and dance by her seniors and has attempted suicide, the victim’s family said Friday.
The incident took place in Bapatla town of Guntur district, about 360 km from here.

The 20-year-old first year degree student of the Government Agriculture and Engineering College consumed a pesticide after she was ragged by her seniors in a college hostel.

She attempted suicide Feb 24 but the matter came to light only Thursday night when she narrated her tale of woes after regaining consciousness at a hospital in the town.

Her family members alleged that her hostel mates allegedly made her dance nude in front of them.

The student was from Srikakulum district in north coastal Andhra and was staying in the hostel. “Our daughter consumed pesticide unable to bear the acts of ragging by her seniors,” her parents Adi Lakshmi and Ramana told reporters in the hospital.

They demanded that stern action be taken against those involved in the ragging.

The police recorded her statement, in which she named a few seniors. Police have registered a case and have launched a probe.

The case has come to light close on the heels of a medical college student losing his life to ragging in Himachal Pradesh.

Aman Kachroo, 19, died Sunday after being brutally ragged by his seniors in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district.
