Amitabh Mattoo welcome back to Kashmir, tweets Omar
June 27th, 2011 - 10:55 pm ICT by IANSJammu, June 27 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Monday made an open offer to noted academician Amitabh Mattoo to return to the state and “advise us”.
Mattoo, a former vice chancellor of Jammu University and currently Director, India Australia Institute, Melbourne, was recently in Kashmir to visit his family there.
Abdullah, in a retweet to one of his followers on the micro-blogging site, said: “The day he wants to come back from Australia full time to help/advice us, he’s welcome to.”
Mattoo, an authority on international relations, was appointed as Vice Chancellor Central University of Jammu, but he declined and instead accepted the offer of the institute in Australia.
Mattoo in his tweets, during his visit to the Valley, made certain critical remarks about the environmental degradation and “little governance”.
Some of Mattoo’s tweets compiled by one of his followers, read : “I am deeply disappointed by what I see, but I do hope people like you join the fight to improve the state of affairs.”
