Amar Singh’s medical reports paint grim picture
September 14th, 2011 - 11:16 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 14 (IANS) Former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, in custody for the cash-for-votes scam, is suffering from urinary tract infection, diarrhoea, dehydration and diabetes and needs to be in hospital for some more time, according to medical reports submitted to a court here Wednesday.
Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Tihar Jail authorities submitted the reports before Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal.
“His (Singh’s) white blood cells count has increased and is spreading infection. The urine culture test has been repeated. This is suggestive of severe urinary tract infection (UTI)… because of his infection, he needs to be hospitalised,” the report said.
The 55-year-old leader has been diagnosed with post-renal transplant urinary tract infection, diarrhoea, dehydration, diabetes and hypothyroid hypertension.
Moreover, Singh’s creatinine level too has gone up by 30 percent and he is vomiting regularly.
“The creatinine level is fluctuating between 1.3-1.6. Normally, it is 0.8-0.9. Recently due to diarrhoea and UTI, this level has jumped to 1.6,” the report added.
The Rajya Sabha member is also being given psychiatric consultation in AIIMS for his anxiety and restlessness.
He has also been advised abdomen X-ray after he developed abdominal pain Sep 13, which was later relieved by a medicine given by gastrologists. There has been a decrease in urine flow too, the report stated.
Besides, Singh has acute allograft dysfunction, which means that certain organs in his body are not functioning properly.
Tihar Jail’s medical officer, in his report, stated that Singh was referred to AIIMS Monday evening on the recommendation of a team of doctors from the government-run Lok Nayak Hospital and GB Pant Hospital.
“He was admitted in view of urinary tract infection with multiple ailment having raised creatinine level in post-renal transplant,” the report said.
The report from AIIMS also said that any post-renal transplant infection can also lead to kidney failure.
Amar Singh underwent a renal transplant in September 2009 and intestinal surgery 10 years ago.
The Rajya Sabha member, who was admitted to AIIMS Monday and has been under observation for a kidney complaint, was arrested Sep 6 for his alleged involvement in an attempt to bribe MPs ahead of the July 2008 parliament trust vote.
The court was to pronounce its order on Amar Singh’s interim bail plea Tuesday but posted it for further arguments after his health deteriorated and he was admitted to AIIMS. The hearing on his interim bail plea is now posted for Thursday.
