Am a fan of Bismillah Khan, Satyajit Ray: French musician
January 24th, 2010 - 12:50 am ICT by IANSKolkata, Jan 23 (IANS) French musician Thierry Robin, who arrived here Saturday to perform his self-styled Mediterranean music, said that he was a great admirer of legendary shehnai player Ustad Bismillah Khan and eminent filmmaker Satyajit Ray.
“I am a great admirer of Ustad Bismillah Khan and Satyajit Ray. Indian music has influenced me to a large extent. In the early 1980s, I had performed with tabla player Hamid Khan in France. I had also performed in Jaipur on several occasions,” said Robin.
Robin, popularly known as ‘Titi’, will perform his Mediterranean music in the city’s premier Tollygunge Club Sunday as a part of Bonjour-India cultural festival.
Bonjour India is the cultural platform jointly promoted by French embassy in India and Culturesfrance.
“It gives me great pleasure to perform in Kolkata as both Kolkata and France have a rich cultural heritage. My music is deeply influenced by gipsy and oriental cultures,” Robin said.
“I have drawn a great influence from Mediterranean music too,” he said.
