Almost all major terror cases solved: Government
February 16th, 2012 - 10:10 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Feb 16 (IANS) “Major” terror cases in India since 2000 have been cracked successfully, the government said Thursday strongly rebutting the opposition charges of alleged failure in solving bombings in the country.
“The government and the investigating agencies are sparing no effort to solve every terror case and bring the perpetrators to justice,” the home ministry spokesperson said.
The spokesperson stressed that 46 major terrorist incidents, in which at least some people have suffered injuries, have occurred in India since May 2000.
“Of these, all but seven cases have been solved,” the spokesperson said, after accusations by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that the government had failed in tackling terror and solving cases related to it.
Of the seven “unsolved cases, four cases are close to being solved”, the spokesperson said.
It said the home grown militant outfit Indian Mujahideen has been found to be behind the four major terror incidents since 2010. These include bombings at German Bakery in Pune on Feb 13, 2010, near Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on April 17, 2010, shoot out and blast near Jama Masjid in Delhi on Sep 19, 2010 and serial blasts in Mumbai on July 13, 2011.
It said more people were expected to be arrested soon for their alleged involvement in bombings at Malegaon, Samjhauta Express train, Mecca Masjid, Ajmer dargah and Modassa.
These cases were being re-investigated and the Modassa bombing is on the verge of being solved.
The spokesperson said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Naba Kumar Sarkar alias Swami Aseemanand, Lokesh Sharma, Devender Gupta and a few others in connection with these cases.
“Recently, NIA has arrested Kamal Chouhan and it is expected that more arrests will be made leading to solving of the above cases.”
