Albania names new national coach
December 15th, 2011 - 4:55 pm ICT by IANSTirana, Dec 15 (IANS) Albania has named Italian Giovanni de Biasi as the country’s new national football coach.
Albanian football federation said Wednesday that De Biasi,55, has signed a two-year contract with Albania.
De Biasi replaces Croatian coach Josip Kuze, who left in October due to the national team’s weak performance in UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying, Xinhua reported.
Albania finished next-to-last in Group D with nine points after only two victories in 10 matches, 12 points behind group winner France.
The western Balkan country has been drawn in the 2014 World Cup qualifying Group E with Norway, Slovenia, Switzerland, Cyprus and Iceland.
