Vancouver, Feb 24 (IANS) The son of a close friend and associate of acquitted 1985 Air India bombing suspect Ripudaman Singh Malik has been arrested for a gang-style murder in the Indian-dominated Surrey area of Vancouver. Thirty-year-old Raminder Singh Bandher, with ties to gangsters, has been charged with murdering the boyfriend of his friend’s former girlfriend.
Tejvir Bains, 24, was killed in his girlfriend’s apartment in Surrey in the last week of January.
Bandher will be produced before court Monday for further remand. He has a long history of credit fraud and crime.
He had appeared at the Air India trial in 2004 to testify against a former woman employee of Malik who had said that she overheard her then boss (Malik) and Bandher talk about the bombing plot. The woman appeared as a witness for prosecutors.
Bandher’s father, Balwant, is a close friend and associate of Malik and is considered a suspect in the Air India bombing.
