Srinagar, March 11 (IANS) An Indian Air Force (IAF) engineer was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district for accepting Rs.40,000 as bribe from a local contractor, police said Friday.

P.K. Srivastava, a garrison engineer at the Awantipora air force base, was caught by CBI sleuths while accepting the bribe money Thursday evening.

The contractor, according to police, had constructed a building inside the air base and had been forced to approach the CBI as the Srivastava was not releasing his payment and was demanding a bribe.

“Srivastava had been withholding the contractor’s bill for quite some time in order to force him to come forward with the gratification,” a police officer in south Kashmir told IANS.

“Around Rs.7 lakh were also recovered from the office of the engineer inside the air force base,” he added.
