Air force engineer in CBI net for bribe
March 11th, 2011 - 2:17 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, March 11 (IANS) An Indian Air Force (IAF) engineer was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district for accepting Rs.40,000 as bribe from a local contractor, police said Friday.
P.K. Srivastava, a garrison engineer at the Awantipora air force base, was caught by CBI sleuths while accepting the bribe money Thursday evening.
The contractor, according to police, had constructed a building inside the air base and had been forced to approach the CBI as the Srivastava was not releasing his payment and was demanding a bribe.
“Srivastava had been withholding the contractor’s bill for quite some time in order to force him to come forward with the gratification,” a police officer in south Kashmir told IANS.
“Around Rs.7 lakh were also recovered from the office of the engineer inside the air force base,” he added.
