Ahmedabad, April 16 (IANS) Ahmedabad’s civic body will invest Rs.400 million by end-2009 in four new fire stations which will serve important business and residential areas. Informing this, municipal commissioner I.P. Gautam said that these fire stations shall be constructed by in Aslali, Naroda GIDC industrial area, Sola and Vastral.
Two more shall be built in Chandkheda and Makarba later at a cost of Rs.200 million, he added.
As many as 32-40 firemen equipped with major and minor firetenders, a couple of water tankers, ambulance, a morgue van and a boat would man each fire station.
The decision to construct new fire stations was taken following heavy development activities in different areas, which have increased traffic density. This makes it difficult for fire tenders to rush to affected sites, he explained.
