Agra, Aug 20 (IANS) Students, housewives, professionals and people from all walks of life converged at the heart of Taj city Saturday in support of activist Anna Hazare and a stringent Lokpal bill.

The nucleus of protests is the Shahid Smarak in the busy commercial complex Sanjay Place. People have been streaming into the stalls that have been set up at the ground.

“Students have been coming since morning and not wanting to leave till the demand for Jan Lokpal bill is accepted by the government,” a spokesperson for India Against Corruption, which is spearheading the movement, told IANS.

Dozens of outfits of women and cultural organisations have joined the fray. Doctors, advocates and various other professionals too have come forward supporting Anna.

Tourism organisations came together Friday evening to take out a candle march.

On Sunday, organisers at the Shahid Smarak are expecting a massive turnout. Elsewhere in the city, Anna supporters have put up banners and kiosks with loudspeakers blaring patriotic songs.

“The local newspapers and cable TV networks are full of Anna news. Everything else has been pushed to the background. Right now, its only Anna and he has to win. If he fails, people, especially the young ones, could lose faith in the efficacy of Gandhian methods of non-violence,” senior tourism industry leader Surendra Sharma told IANS.
