Afghans protest Pakistani shelling
July 11th, 2011 - 9:29 pm ICT by IANSKabul, July 11 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Hundreds of people Monday took to the streets in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad to protest shelling from the Pakistani side of the border, Afghan TV channels reported.
More than 500 demonstrators chanted “Death to Pakistani aggressors” as they marched on the streets. In a fresh attack reported Monday, Pakistan fired 15 rockets at Afghanistan’s Kunar province. No one was injured in the incident.
Police stopped the protesters near the Pakistani consulate. No clashes have been reported.
More than 800 rockets have been fired at the Afghan provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar, Khost and Paktia from Pakistan in the last two months, killing some 50 civilians and leaving over 100 wounded. Dozens of buildings have also been destroyed.
