New Delhi, March 5 (IANS) Afghanistan supplies about 93 percent of the illicit opiates in the global market and 193,000 hectares of land in the country are devoted to illegal cultivation of opium poppy, the International Narcotics Control Board said in an annual report released here Wednesday. The board sounded an alarm, saying acetic anhydride was being smuggled into Afghanistan from the Middle East in increasing quantities. This is the main chemical used in the illicit manufacture of heroin.
