Dharamsala, Jan 7 (IANS) The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), based in this Himachal Pradesh town, Saturday asked China to adopt liberal policies on Tibet and its people.

Its reaction came after two more people immolated themselves in Tibet Friday over China’s repressive policies.

“The Kashag (cabinet) is saddened to learn of two more cases of self-immolation in Ngaba in Sichuan. In the last 12 months, there have now been 14 cases of self-immolation,” the CTA said in a statement.

It asked the Chinese government to change its policies.

“The People’s Republic of China government is solely to be blamed for these incidents of self-immolation. It must take full responsibility and immediately take measures to end these unfortunate incidents by adopting liberal policies,” the CTA said.

The CTA said the Tibetans immolated themselves to protest China’s policies, for their demand of freedom and the return of the Dalai Lama to his homeland.

However, it clarified that it “does not encourage any protests inside Tibet”.

Spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, along with many of his supporters fled Tibet and took refuge in India when Chinese troops moved in and took control of Lhasa in 1959.

His government-in-exile, not recognised by any country, is based in Dharamsala. India is home to around 100,000 Tibetans.
