Actress Mariah Susairaj set free
July 2nd, 2011 - 2:18 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, July 2 (IANS) Kannada actress Mariah Monica Susairaj was released from jail Saturday after being acquitted in the May 2008 killing of television executive Neeraj Grover.
Sporting a printed dress, Susairaj was quickly whisked into a waiting white Honda City car with tinted windows and a police van escorted it outside the jail compound.
It was not clear if any relatives were waiting in the car. She is expected to leave for Bangalore later in the day.
Susairaj was sentenced to three years in jail Friday by a Mumbai court for destroying evidence in the Grover murder case. Since she had already served more than three years as an undertrial, she was ordered to be released once she had paid the compensation amount of Rs.50,000 to the victim’s family.
Her co-accused and fiance, ex-naval officer Emile Jerome Mathew was sentenced to 10 years jail term after the court found him ‘guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder’.
