Achuthanandan’s presence helped Left in Kerala: CPI
May 24th, 2011 - 10:44 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 24 (IANS) The Communist Party of India (CPI) said Tuesday former Kerala chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan’s presence in the April 13 assembly polls had helped the Left Democratic Front (LDF) very much.
“The CPI felt that Achuthananandan’s presence helped the LDF very much to get the current tally in the polls,” party state secretary C.K. Chandrappan told reporters after attending a meeting of the CPI national executive here.
The LDF bagged 68 seats in the 140-member assembly, narrowly missing returning to power.
The CPI had urged Achuthanandan’s Communist Party of India-Marxist to field him in the polls, after the CPI-M in the initial stages of candidates’ selection planned to drop him.
Chandrappan also said the LDF will not resort to “horse-trading” to capture power in the state.
