Achuthanandan evading collective responsibility: CongressNovember 15th, 2008 - 10:27 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Nov 15 (IANS) Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan is going against the concept of collective responsibility of the cabinet as he is criticising his own colleagues, state Congress president Ramesh Chennithala said here Saturday.”The decision to take the loan was taken by the cabinet charied by Achuthanandan. He is responsible for it and not his ministers. As the head of the cabinet, he should support his cabinet colleagues. But, unfortunately he is still haunting his cabinet colleagues on the ADB loan,” Chennithala said.
Achuthanandan vehemently opposed signing an agreement with ADB for a Rs.1.6 billion loan for the state in January 2007, though his colleague, Finance Minister Thomas Issac, had argued in support of the loan.
The chief minister Friday said the present crisis in the world economy has proved that the arguments of the supporters of the loan were wrong and they are speechless now.
“Achuthanandan, by making allegations against his cabinet colleagues, destroyed the collective responsibility of his cabinet,” Chennithala alleged.
Justifying the ADB loan for the state’s urban development projects, he said: “I fear the funding agency might halt providing any loan to the state.”
The agreement for the loan was signed by Isaac and Local Self-Government Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty, without the knowledge of the chief minister.
The state Congress president also said Kerala had turned into a breeding ground for extremist and terrorist activities under the Left Democratic Front (LDF) rule.
