Accept amendments for strong Lokpal, says Mulayam
December 27th, 2011 - 6:03 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 27 (IANS) Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav Tuesday urged the government to accept amendments proposed by opposition parties to make a strong Lokpal.
Participating in the debate on the Lokpal bill in the Lok Sabha, the Samajwadi Party leader dubbed the government’s bill as weak.
“The whole country is thinking how to end corruption and are hoping this bill will end corruption. But there is only one way, that is to accept the amendments that are being brought,” Mulayam Singh said.
“This Lokpal and Lokayukta bill has disappointed people.”
The Samajwadi leader added that not accepting the opposition demands will lead to allegations that the body is under government control, as it is with the CBI.
“If you don’t accept the amendments, the blames that are put on CBI will also be put on Lokpal,” he said.
“Corruption goes from top to bottom, not bottom to top.”
