Absconding murder accused held after eight years

New Delhi, June 16 (IANS) A man, who allegedly killing a businessman in north Delhi eight year ago, has been arrested from Uttrakhand, police said Thursday.

“The accused has been identified as Kanchu, who along with his brother Sanjay Sonkar and two other accomplices - Sonu and Sonu Pahelwan, had murdered Ajay Kumar in Azadpur Mandi on Dec 6, 2003,” said a police officer.

“While Sonkar, Sonu and Pahlewan were arrested during investigation and put under judicial custody, Kanchu was absconding since the day of the incident. Acting on a tip off, the police arrested Kanchu from Haldwani Wednesday,” added the officer.

“During interrogation, he disclosed that he and his brother were business rivals of Ajay Kumar, who had got a case of attempt to murder registered against his brother,” the officer said.

The four then attacked Ajay Kumar in his shop and killed him in broad daylight, addedthe officer.
