Lucknow, Jan 16 (IANS) A man wanted in cases of rape, attempt to murder and drug smuggling and who had escaped from police custody from a running train was arrested in Uttar Pradesh, the police said Friday. “We arrested him from the Mohanlalganj locality in Lucknow,” police inspector Abhishek Sirohi said.

Pawan Yadav, who carries a cash reward of Rs.10,000 on his head, escaped December last year from a running train from the outskirts of Kanpur, some 90 km from here.

The two constables who were escorting Yadav on the train were suspended after he escaped by cutting the handcuffs, the police said.

“Besides rape, other cases such as attempt to murder, loot and drug smuggling are also registered against him in Lucknow and other neighbouring districts,” Sirohi added.
