November 26th, 2011 - 5:35 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, Nov 26 (IANS) As many as 8,000 Rangers will stay on guard during the Islamic month of Muharram in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi to prevent any untoward incident, the Daily Times reported.
This year, Muharram begins at sunset Saturday (Nov 26) and will last till Monday sunsent (Dec 26).
According to Sindh Rangers, they have finalised a comprehensive security plan to avert any untoward incident during the month which is an important period of mourning.
Around 8,000 Rangers personnel would be deployed in the city and several security pickets have already been established across the metropolis. All law enforcement agencies are on high alert to avoid any untoward incident during Muharram, said the Rangers’ spokesman Brigadier Waseem Ayub at a press conference.
The Rangers would also be deployed on the rooftops of high-rise buildings located along the routes of the main mourning procession to keep close watch on the troublemakers, he said. The decision regarding the surgical operations at different locations of the city was made at a high-level meeting held to review the city’s law and order situation, he added.
