73-year-old man jailed for sexually abusing boys
June 26th, 2011 - 2:00 pm ICT by IANSSydney, June 26 (IANS) A 73-year-old Australian doctor has been sent to jail for sexually abusing teenaged boys in the guise of collecting semen samples for tests.
John Phillip Rolleston was sentenced by a Sydney court to a maximum of four years for crimes against 12 victims, the Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported.
One victim said they had all become “shattered individuals”. Another spoke of how his “world fell apart”.
The judge said that following the attacks, the victims suffered from many illnesses including depression and anxiety, and had turned to drugs and alcohol.
“I hope you can really reflect on what you have done to all of us. We all lost our confidence, we are all shattered individuals,” another victim told him in court.
Rolleston was found guilty of indecent assault between 1975 and 1981 at a Sydney hospital.
The boys - then aged 14 and 15 - were seeking treatment for minor conditions such as sore throat, ankle injury or flu. But the doctor sexually abused them, the court was told.
Some of his victims termed him a “sick and perverted ogre” who used the medical profession to disguise his crimes.
