7 members of family attempt suicide

New Delhi, March 18 (IANS) Faced with dire financial difficulties, seven members of a family allegedly attempted suicide Wednesday by consuming some poisonous substance in northwest Delhi, the police said.
The incident was reported from Keshavpuram area of the northwest district at around 3.30 p.m. Wednesday, the police said.

“When the police reached the spot the whole family was lying unconscious. Satish Jain, 45, his wife Sunita Jain, 40 and their five daughters Priyanka, 16, Priya, 14, Ritu, 13, Sakshi, 11, and Kareena, 6, had consumed some poisonous substance,” a senior police officer said.

“They were rushed to Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital in Pitampura area. Leaving aside Satish who is in the ICU (intensive care unit), everyone is stable and out of danger. However, they are not fit enough to give a statement as yet,” the police officer added.

“Preliminary investigation have revealed that the family was facing huge financial difficulties. Satish is unemployed. He was living in Chander Nagar locality of Keshavpuram area with his family,” the police official said.

“Further investigation are on,” the police officer added.
