68 kg hashish seized from fruit market
November 16th, 2010 - 8:14 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Nov 16 (IANS) A total of 68 kg hashish, worth over Rs.10 million, was seized from a truck carrying Kashmiri apples to the wholesale fruit market in Navi Mumbai, an official said Tuesday.
Four people were arrested after the seizure made last Saturday following a tip-off that the narcotics consignment was on its way to the market, a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) official said.
NCB sleuths checked a truck, bearing Haryana registration and carrying a consignment of 600 boxes of apples from Kashmir, and came across 26 packets of the contraband concealed in special compartments created above the driver’s seat, the official said.
Tauseef Ahmed Khan, 20, of Baramulla, Abdul Majid Dar, 50, of Shopian (both in Kashmir) and their two Mumbai-based accomplices, Chand Shajada Sayyed, 32, of Dharavi and Rehman Abdul Sheikh, 37, of Mahim were arrested.
The four accused were brought before a magistrate, who remanded them to police custody till Nov 22, the official said.
