65 houses gutted in Himachal (Lead)
December 24th, 2011 - 5:01 pm ICT by IANSShimla, Dec 24 (IANS) A devastating fire gutted 65 houses and left an entire village in shambles in a remote part of Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district Saturday.
“More than 60 houses were destroyed in the fire in Chichwardi village,” Deputy Commissioner Onkar Sharma told IANS. Most structures in the village, some 150 km from here, were wooden.
The fire killed over 250 cattle and left more than 450 people homeless.
“We have provided blankets, tents and woollens to the locals and shifted them to temporary shelters,” Sharma said.
Witnesses said rescue workers had a tough time reaching the village as it was not connected by road.
