65 houses gutted in fire in Himachal village
December 24th, 2011 - 4:46 pm ICT by IANSShimla, Dec 24 (IANS) In a devastating fire, 65 houses were gutted in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district early Saturday. However, there has been no loss to human life.
“More than 65 houses were completely destroyed in the fire in Chichwardi village near Chirgaon in Rohru tehsil,” Deputy Commissioner Onkar Sharma told IANS.
He said the entire village, some 150 km from here, was damaged. Most of the structures in the village were wooden.
More than 450 people have been rendered homeless and over 250 cattle perished in the fire.
“We have provided blankets, tents and woollens to the locals and shifted them to temporary shelters in nearby areas,” Sharma said.
Eyewitnesses said the rescue workers had a tough time reaching the village as it was not connected by road and was located in the interior of the tehsil.
