6.1-magnitude quake hits Japan
October 21st, 2011 - 6:37 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, Oct 21 (IANS) An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted Japan’s Hokkaido island Friday, Xinhua reported.
According to the US Geological Survey, the quake hit at 0802 GMT Friday, the US Geological Survey said.
Its epicentre, with a depth of 185 km, was initially determined to be at 43.8891 degrees north latitude and 142.4766 degrees east longitude.
Hokkaido is Japan’s second largest, northernmost and least developed of the four main islands.
