Chandigarh, Oct 5 (IANS) Fifty-five private security agencies in Haryana’s millennium city Gurgaon are under the police scanner for failing to obtain licences for their functioning and not following other norms, an official said here Wednesday.

“The Haryana Police has advised the people and companies not to engage 55 identified security agencies of Gurgaon for security cover in their premises, commercial or residential, as they have neither applied for licence nor are complying with norms of training, education and verification of security guards,” a police spokesman said.

He said the Haryana Private Security Agencies Rules, 2009, were notified Aug 31, 2009 and they were bound to obtain licences from the controlling authority for conducting operations.

The additional director general of police (Law and Order) has been appointed as the competent authority to issue licences.

The spokesman said a survey of all private security agencies in Gurgaon was conducted during the last fortnight of September. The agencies which had not complied with the norms were identified.

He said the security agencies in Gurgaon had been advised in the last two years to obtain licences from the controlling authority but many have not applied.

“Such agencies do not want to follow the law of the nation and are found wanting in compliance of regulatory rules. Several Resident Welfare Associations and companies are complaining of inadequate services by several agencies,” the spokesman pointed out.

“There are instances where guards have been found indulging in thefts, burglaries and even murders in the premises,” he added.

Gurgaon, adjoining New Delhi, is home to scores of offices of leading multi-national and top Indian companies. Many professionals, especially from the information technology, software and BPO industry, live and work there.
