55 injured in Russia blast
June 26th, 2011 - 11:41 am ICT by IANSMoscow, June 26 (IANS/RIA Novosti) At least 55 people were injured when a gas cylinder exploded during a wedding in Russia, an official said.
The incident took place in the southern city of Vladikavkaz Saturday, said Taimuraz Revazov, deputy health minister of North Ossetia state.
Officials said the blast was caused by depressurisation of the gas cylinder.
Around 20 people were in critical condition, Revazov said. Four people have been put on ventilators.
Some of the injured received 100 percent burns, a hospital official said.
The federal emergency situations ministry sent an Il-76 plane with a mobile medical unit on board to Vladikavkaz late at night to evacuate the wounded to Moscow.
