51 killed as bus plunges into valley in China
September 13th, 2008 - 11:43 pm ICT by IANSChengdu (China), Sep 13 (Xinhua) At least 51 people were killed when a bus they were travelling in plunged into a valley in China’s southwestern Sichuan province, officials said Saturday night.The accident occurred at around 1.40 p.m. when the bus plunged into a 100-metre-deep valley in the mountainous Nanjiang county, a county official said on condition of anonimity.
All the passengers, including the driver of the bus were killed in the accident, according to witnesses.
The bus had departed from Bazhong city of Sichuan province to Ningbo city in the eastern Zhejiang province.
Jiang Jufeng, governor of Sichuan, was en route to the site to supervise the rescue operation.
