50kg bomb recovered in Chhattisgarh
December 3rd, 2011 - 10:21 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, Dec 3 (IANS) A 50kg bomb was Saturday recovered by a patrolling team of the Chhattisgarh Police in the interior of Maoist violence-hit Bastar region, an officer said.
The bomb was found on a road in a jungle pocket of Bijapur district, 500 km from here.
“The bomb that was placed on a road by Maoist militants was detected by a police party which defused it immediately. It was certainly meant to target the police party,” district superintendent of police R.N. Das told IANS.
He added that searches in the area had been intensified to recover more such bombs, if any. Since the late 1980s, Maoists command the forests in the 40,000 sq km Bastar region that includes Bijapur district.
The outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) has called for a two-day nationwide shutdown Dec 4-5 in protest against the killing of one of its top leaders, Malojula Koteswara Rao alias Kishenji, in West Bengal late last month.
