500 Delhi kids missing for past one year, court told
January 19th, 2011 - 10:53 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 19 (IANS) The Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Wednesday submitted before the Delhi High Court that more than 500 children who have been missing for the past one year have not yet been traced by police.Appearing before the division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna, DLSA Member Secretary Asha Menon said the list of missing children prepared by it did not match with the one prepared by police.
Countering the submission, the government counsel said 270 children have been traced from various places and it has prepared a report about the reasons why they leave their homes and work in different establishments.
The court sought an affidavit from police in this regard and directed them to produce at least five children, rescued by them, before the DLSA.
Issuing a slew of directions, the bench earlier told police to investigate into the existence of different gangs allegedly involved in kidnapping and trafficking children. should be taken against them.
Taking note of media reports over missing children in the city, the court directed the DLSA to monitor whether police register complaints in such cases.
