Jammu, Nov 9 (IANS) More than 50 students were arrested from different parts of Jammu Wednesday while protesting the new recruitment policy of the state which slashes the salaries of new recruits to government jobs by 50 percent.
A number of students were able to reach outside the civil secretariat here Wednesday despite heavy police presence. However, police intercepted and arrested them when they were approaching the main gate of the civil secretariat.
“They violated the restrictions placed around the secretariat,” said a police official.
The youth in Jammu are protesting the new recruitment policy announced by the state government in October, which slashes 50 percent salary of new employees in government jobs for two years and 25 percent for the next three years. Their confirmation in service would be done only after five years, the policy envisages.
Police also forcibly lifted two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators — Sham Choudhary and Sukhnandhan — who were staging a sit-in outside the civil secretariat against what they called the anti-people policies of the National Conference-Congress government.
