50 hurt in Chhattisgarh bus accident
July 20th, 2010 - 8:24 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, July 20 (IANS) At least 50 people were seriously injured Tuesday when the overcrowded bus they were travelling in overturned in a forested area of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police said.
The 55-seater bus with 81 people on board was on way to Jagdalpur town in Bastar district from Bhopalpattanam of Bijapur district when it overturned in a forested area in Bijapur, some 480 km south of capital Raipur.
“The driver lost control of the speeding bus on a forested road that was damaged by Maoists recently but luckily no one died,” Superintendent of Police (Bijapur) Avinash Mohanty told reporters.
He said that most of the injured were critical and had been admitted to hospitals at Bhopalpattanam and Bijapur.
