50 dead in storm, floods in Philippines
December 17th, 2011 - 2:07 pm ICT by IANSManila, Dec 17 (IANS) Over 50 people are feared dead in overnight floods triggered by the tropical storm Washin in southern Philippines, officials said Saturday.
Asked about the number of fatalities, Ana Caneda, regional director of the office of civil defence, said: “It is quite many…actually, about 50. This is subject to verification.”
All the deaths were reported in the Mindanao region, Xinhua reported.
“Our priority now is to feed them (the displaced people),” the official said, adding 46 villages were flooded.
