New Delhi, Dec 3 (IANS) International training will be provided to 44 boxers to prepare them for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.Beijing Games heroes Vijender Singh Akhil Kumar and Jitender are part of the core group that will be provided state-of-the-art training and exposure both at domestic and international levels, the sports ministry said.
The government in consultation with Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) also approved names of seven Indian coaches. The IABF has also been asked to look for a foreign coach.
The IABF has also been directed by the government to prepare a calendar for training and competition in consultation with Sports Authority of India (SAI) for 305 days in a year.
National Institute of Sport (NIS) Patiala, Pune’s Army Institute for Sports and SAI Centre Shillaroo have been identified as centres of training.
