41 stolen vehicles recovered in Chandigarh in May
June 1st, 2011 - 8:12 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, June 1 (IANS) Chandigarh Police Wednesday said it had arrested 11 auto thieves and recovered 41 vehicles, including luxurious cars and sports utility vehicles (SUVs), during the month of May.
“We have achieved big success and arrested 11 people, recovering 41 stolen vehicles, in May. The arrested are notorious criminals and many cases are registered against them in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh,” Chandigarh’s Senior Superintendent of Police Naunihal Singh told reporters here.
The vehicle lifters were arrested from various places in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
“We are also tracking their associates who were helping them in the preparation of forged documents and selling the stolen vehicles. Efforts are on to arrest them,” he said.
Police sources said the total cost of recovered vehicles is around Rs.1 crore (Rs.10 million).
