40 tourists injured as bus overturns in Delhi (Lead)
August 30th, 2010 - 7:09 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 30 (IANS) About 40 tourists from Rajasthan were injured when their speeding bus overturned after hitting a divider in east Delhi early Monday, police said.
The accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. when the bus driver, who was over-speeding, lost control and ran over a divider near Yamuna Vihar area, according to police. The driver fled from the spot immediately, while the conductor escaped from the hospital, police said.
“The bus was on its way to Rajasthan from Badaun overturned near Yamuna Vihar-D block area. The injured were rushed to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital,” a senior police officer told IANS.
The condition of two among the injured, including a small girl, is serious.
Police are looking for the runaway driver and the conductor.
