40 missing as trawler capsizes in West Bengal
October 30th, 2010 - 5:35 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Oct 30 (IANS) At least 45 people were missing after the trawler they were travelling in capsized on river Buriganga near Ghoramara island in West Bengal Saturday, police said.
“The incident occurred around 10.30 a.m. As per preliminary reports, 40-45 people aboard the trawler are missing,” said an officer at the West Bengal Police control room here.
Ghoramara island is in South 24 Parganas district.
“We have also requested the Indian Navy to send divers for rescuing the victims,” the officer said.
The Coast Guard, river traffic police and the state government’s disaster management wing have also been alerted, he added.
