4 injured in Trinamool-CPI-M clash, 6 held
February 28th, 2012 - 11:34 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Feb 28 (IANS) Four people were injured in a clash between workers of West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress and opposition Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) in North 24-Parganas district during the nationwide general strike Tuesday, police said.
The clash broke out over the closure of a school at Rajarhat during the 24-hour strike.
Six people were arrested in the case.
Police said some cadres of the CPI-M tried to forcibly close down the school to enforce the shut-down and a group of Trinamool Congress supporters resisted it.
On getting information, Gopalpur-Rajarhat Municipality chairman Tapas Chatterjee, a CPI-M leader, and Trinamool Congress legislator Sabyasachi Dutta arrived at the spot, sparking off the clash.
The revolver of Dutta’s security guard was lost during the incident, police said.
“I am told that the guard shot at our supporters,” CPI-M district secretary Gautam Deb told reporters.
