3G auction issue referred to Group of MinistersJanuary 29th, 2009 - 4:20 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Jan 29 (IANS) In a move that will delay the launch of third generation (3G) mobile telephony in India, the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA) has referred the issues relating to spectrum auction to a Group of Ministers, the government said Thursday. “We are looking for an early decision from the Group of Ministers,” Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, told reporters here.
Issues include setting the base price for the auction and finalising the number of slots firms can bid for in 20 of India’s 22 service areas to be covered by the sale of spectrum.
Earlier, the Department of Telecom (DoT) had asked the CCEA to review all policy guidelines for 3G.
