35 NGOs come together to push for women’s bill
May 1st, 2010 - 7:23 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 1 (IANS) Thirty-five civil society organisations will get together next week to formulate an action plan to push for the women’s reservation bill that was passed by the Rajya Sabha but is yet to be taken up by the Lok Sabha.
Ranjana Kumari of the the Centre for Social Research, one of the participating NGOs, said: “The aim of the public meeting is to chalk out an action plan in order to pressurize parliamentarians to pass the women’s reservation bill in the Lok Sabha.”
“Besides 35 NGOs, the meeting will have representation from MPs, women leaders, and the general public. Almost a thousand women from different walks of life are also expected to take part in the meeting,” she added.
Among those who are expected to participate in the meeting are Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Girija Vyas, chairperson of the National Commission of Women and parliamentarians Chandresh Kumari, Madhu Yakshi and Shivanand Tiwari.
