30 Iranian convicts to be executed Sunday: Report

Tehran, July 26 (DPA) Thirty Iranian convicts are to be executed in one day, a Tehran daily reported Saturday. The Tehran prosecutor’s office would Sunday execute 30 people convicted in cases of murders, drug-traffickers and illicit sexual relationships, Aftab newspaper reported.

The report did not say whether the convicts would all be executed in Tehran or other cities as well, but said that the execution order has already been approved by the judiciary.

The report was not immediately confirmed by the judiciary.

Executions in Iran are carried out by hanging. More than 290 convicts were reportedly executed in Iran last year, many in public.

Murder, rape, armed robbery, illicit sex and possession or transporting drugs weighing more than five kilogrammes are among the crimes punishable by death in Iran.
