Panaji, March 12 (IANS) The Goa tourism department Saturday cancelled the registration of three taxicabs, whose owners assaulted Ukrainian tourists.

The attack on the nine tourists from Ukraine happened March 8 at the beach village of Candolim, 10 km from here.

Goa’s tourism director Swapnil Naik told IANS that the department was awaiting a police report, following which the tourist taxi permits of the three will also be cancelled.

A gang of taxi drivers, including the three — namely Agnelo D’Souza, Rohit Nagvenkar and Suresh Naik — assaulted the tourists, who included two women, after an argument.

Two Ukrainian women, Oheru Fedoruk and Serhiv Kvachuk, both in their twenties, were seriously injured and are still undergoing treatment in a local hospital.
